Rules for food: taken from friends

1. Eat less but better; go for quality

2. Choose food for how it was grown, reared, delivered and processed. Think fossil fuels; embedded energy in food is ‘oil’. Pay the full (sometimes hidden) costs of producing and transporting the food; if you do not, others will

3. Think balance: Eat no more than you need and build exercise into your daily life

4. Eat fair: don’t take food out of another’s mouth: pay for what you eat

5. Eat mainly plants and celebrate variety: try eating 20 or more plant species a week. If you eat fish or meat, eat less pay more: wild/free-range the nutrients are different

6. Seasonally when practical & by the proximity principle, as locally as you can

7. Drink tap water not soft or bottled drinks, if you drink alcohol in moderation

8. Be aware of hidden ingredients; look for unnecessary additives, salt and sugars; it they are there, don’t buy. Think if your ancestors would not recognise it or it’s components as food, ask if it is food

9. Learn about food, it’s important and think about long term impacts

10. Eat simply as a norm and eat feasts on high days and holiday: Enjoy food, eat with friends and family
